Petrino says he doesn't miss NFL

Published: Wednesday, July 23, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas Coach Bobby Petrino doesn't miss anything about the NFL, not even the paychecks. Petrino made an appearance Tuesday on ESPN's College Football Live show and sat down for a taped interview with host Brent Musburger. Petrino's ESPN appearance was his first as Arkansas' coach, as he had turned down several invitations to appear on other ESPN shows. Several ESPN analysts criticized Petrino after he was hired at Arkansas for leaving the Falcons before the NFL season ended. During the "rapid fire" segment Tuesday, Musberger asked Petrino what he would miss most about the NFL, where Petrino coached for 13 games with Atlanta in 2007. "Not a thing," Petrino said. Afterward, Musburger said: "Coach, you did pretty good at rapid fire, but I thought for sure you'd tell me what you miss the most was the paychecks." Petrino will earn $ 2. 8 million from Arkansas, almost $ 2 million less than what he made with Atlanta. Petrino did use the regular portion of the interview with Musberger to address his sudden departure from the Falcons. "Certainly, the timing was bad," Petrino said. "If there was any other thing that I could have done, left any other way, I would have. From Atlanta's standpoint, from the University of Arkansas' standpoint, there was no other way to have it done."
