Assistant Green retained on UA track staff Published: Tuesday, July 15, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL Longtime men's track administrative assistant Danny Green will continue serving the Razorbacks, new Arkansas men's track / cross country coach Chris Bucknam confirmed Monday. A UA grad and Razorback letterman as a distance runner from 1990-93 in cross country, indoor and outdoor track under now retired coach John McDonnell, Green has been McDonnell's administrative assistant since 1996 as director of track and cross country operations. He will ser ve similar capacities under Bucknam. Green also filled in coaching the distance runners in 2001 while McDonnell convalesced from a heart attack. McDonnell credited Green with suggesting then struggling 5, 000-meter runner Matt Kerr switch to the steeplechase, the race Kerr won at both the 1998 and'99 NCAA Outdoor Championships. A native of Houston, Green said he's elated to continue serving his adopted state in his adopted city. " This fall will be my 20 th year in Fayetteville since John recruited me to come, " Green said. " So it's home. "
Field events coach Dick Booth and now Green have been retained from the McDonnell staff by Bucknam who coached men's and women's teams to 35 conference championships in 25 years at the University of Northern Iowa.
